The Job Description and Personal Requirements

Hockley and Hawkwell Methodist Church is situated on the Main Road, Hockley and is one of the churches in the Southend and Leigh Circuit. It is led, at present, by a Minister who also has charge of the United Methodist Church in Great Wakering and Shoebury.

Vacancy

The Church is looking to appoint an administrative assistant to undertake specific and general administrative duties for the Minister, Worship Leaders and the Leadership Team of Hockley and Hawkwell Methodist Church. The post will be based at the Church, but it is expected that a good deal of the work may be carried out at home.

Job Description

Support the Minister and Leadership Team with administrative tasks, including producing documents, circular letters and emails, researching information, preparing for meetings, organising information etc.

This will include

  • Working remotely with Dropbox/Cloud for ease of communication with the Minister and The Leadership Team.
  • Preparing and presenting Excel files for various record keeping purposes, along with spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentation, including maintaining the GDPR records
  • Co-ordinating with the Circuit administrator on Circuit matters as necessary
  • Maintaining computer records of Baptisms, Funerals and Weddings as directed by Minister.
  • Attending meetings, taking, publishing and distributing minutes as required
  • Compiling, completing and coping reports (including the annual report of Church organisations)
  • Compiling and copying the weekly notices sheet, and create posts for the Facebook page
  • Other work as specified by the Minister and office holders.

The post holder will report to the Worship Team Leader

Personal Requirements

The successful applicant will be expected to have 

  •  proven administrative ability;
  •  numeracy, computer literacy and IT skills; familiarity with social media    
  •  good communication skills and attention to detail; 
  •  an awareness of the GDPR regulations
  •  an appreciation of the confidential aspects of the work;
  •  the ability to work independently on their own initiative but also to be flexible and work as part of a team as necessary.

The successful applicant will be required to be DBS checked and to develop an understanding of the role of the church within the Circuit and the Methodist Connexion

Period of appointment.

This is a 2-year fixed appointment.

Remuneration.

The hours are variable week on week but on average are expected to equate to 4 hours per week for which payment will be made at an hourly rate of £9.00
